Introducing...Novel Plot Week!

I’ve talked some before about how I’ve been trying to choose between several different ideas for NaNoWriMo this year. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to prep all of them during the month of October.

Yeah, it’s going to be a busy month.

For three weeks, I’ll be plotting and preparing ideas. Each idea will get its own “Novel Plot Week,” during which I’ll be focusing on character development, worldbuilding, and plot.

These are the ideas:

Week One:
Capturing Freedom
Fantasy/Adventure
Second Draft

Week Two:
Roguess
Fantasy
First Draft

Week Three:
Songbirds
Futuristic Fantasy
First Draft

Each week is structured around a tentative schedule:

Monday: Characters
Tuesday: Plot
Wednesday: Worldbuilding
Thursday: Playlist
Friday: Extras

If all goes as planned, I will have three ready-to-write ideas at the end of October. When November arrives, all I (should) have to do is pick an idea and start writing!

Over the next few weeks, I’m also hoping to do a weekly recap to record how things are going, and what happens along the way.

Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year? How are you preparing?

  1. Oh wow! What an idea. I'm in awe at your drive to do this. I don't know if I'd ever be able to plot three whole novels in three weeks. o.o You are amazing, girl!

I hope it goes well! Do keep us posted. I'd love to hear how things are going. The very best of luck to you! ^_^

    1. *blushes* Thank you! It usually takes me a few weeks (or longer...) to plot a novel, so this is definitely a challenge.

So far, it's going well! But it is entirely possible that week two could turn out the opposite, hehe. :)

  2. Ah! I love this idea! I need to do something similar because I simply have too many ideas. So I am doing NaNoWriMo (I HAVE to) but I'm not really sure how much time I'm going to have. I have a big round of revisions and edits I want to finish around next month so I'm tentatively planning on double teaming it, writing a first draft and editing but a lot of mine depends on what I finish getting done this month. Right now I'm trying to chose between a MG contemporary fantasy, a YA contemporary, and a brand new plot bunny that's exciting but completely unplotted while I at least have an idea of all the major parts of the others. I'm rambling.

Can't wait to hear how things go! I tend to get wrapped up in outlining/plotting so this sounds like paradise to me because it's my favorite part! By the way, love the all the titles but the one that really intrigues me is Roguess. Hope you enjoy the next three weeks and I love that you have a full day mapped out for playlist making. Genius.

By the way, are we friends on the NaNo website? I need to check. I don't think we are! My profile name's Nobody53 (still waiting for the day you can change those!) if you want to be NaNo buddies!

    1. I've never tried writing MG, but it sounds like it would be fun! Is contemporary fantasy fun to write?

Ooh, plot bunnies! They're exciting, if a bit distracting sometimes. :)

I'm usually more of a pantser, but I like having more structure for NaNoWriMo. I'm hoping I can get all three ideas plotted on time. This seemed like a fun challenge though to get them finished!

I'm really excited to start working on "Roguess!" At this point, I know a few plot things about it, but it's mostly a mystery.

I think we're NaNo buddies? I'll check, and if not, I'll send you a request! :)

    2. Contemporary fantasy is fun, though I keep changing my mind about whether it's contemporary fantasy or magical realism or what. I need to work on that. But I love adding little fantasy aspects to contemporary novels and finding things that no one (that I know of at least) has done before.

SO distracting! I can't be a pantser, I'm a hardcore plotter, it doesn't work any other way. The one time I tried to pants it did not end well and I ended up outlining half way through to figure out how the heck I was going to get to the end of the novel!

Books that are mysteries to the writer are always exciting! And we're buddies now! Hope you're having fun with your plot weeks! =)

  3. Wow, this is quite the endeavor! I myself am not participating in Nanowrimo this year, but I wish you all the best! I look forward to hearing more about your stories as you proceed! :D
