Beautiful People: February 2016

Beautiful People is a monthly linkup hosted by Sky and Cait. Each month, they post ten questions for writers to use to get to know their characters. To find out more and join the fun, visit their blogs here and here!

This month's questions are themed for Valentine's Day!

The only thing is...I apparently don't write many couples. (Valuable information learned while trying to choose characters to interview this month.)

So, even though they are not a couple, I will be featuring Kat and Ed, from The Assassin's Daughter.

How did they first meet?
They were both brought to the academy to train as Assassins. Kat is bound exclusively to the occupation by law, though Ed's case is slightly different. Their mentor thought it a better use of his time to train them as a team than to train them separately.

What were their first impressions of each other?
They weren't sure what to think of the situation or of each other. They were both quiet and sad and clashed a few times but soon realized they could get along quite well.

How long have they been a couple?
They have been a team for the better part of a decade.

How committed/loyal are they to each other? Would they break up over a secret or a disagreement? Could stress drive them apart? Would they die for each other?
A.)
They are incredibly loyal and committed to each other. While it has served them well for most of their time together, their lives are at a point where that connection is viewed by some as a weakness or a detriment.
B.) They have had intense disagreements before but have tried not to make a habit of keeping secrets from one another. I don't think they would end their friendship over a disagreement or secret unless it was something of great division.
C.) Not for long.
D.) Certainly.

List 5 “food quirks” they know about each other. (Ex: how they take their coffee, if they’re allergic to something, etc….and feel free to mention other non-food quirks!)
1.) Ed rarely skips a meal, a habit learned from the survival aspect of his training.
2.) When she's stressed, Kat often forgets to eat because she gets too occupied in her thoughts. Ed tries to remind her though.

3.) Kat almost always wears her hair in a braid.
4.) Ed can be very kind but hates the idea of it being general knowledge.
5.) Kat dislikes dancing (for several reasons). Ed, however, enjoys it and makes her join him whenever possible because she almost always ends up laughing.

Does anyone disapprove of their relationship?

Yes. Not everyone thought they should have been trained as a team but it was allowed because of their mentor.

What would be an ideal date?

They like to sit by the lake sometimes just to escape everything, so their ideal date would probably be going to a place where they could talk if they wanted or just sit together and think.

What are their personality dynamics? Similar? Contrasting? Do they fight a lot or mesh perfectly?
They are similar in many ways, but they also have some big differences. Both are smart and resourceful. Both are good at their almost-job. Both have rebellious tendencies, though for different things and in different ways; Kat tends to be more of an outward rebel while Ed tries not to show his displeasure at a situation.

They argue from time to time but amidst all of it, they would do almost anything for each other.

What have been their best and worst moments together as a couple?
Um. One of their best is my favorite scene in The Assassin's Daughter but it involves big spoilers so I can't talk about it.

I'm not sure what their worst moment is though.

Where do they see themselves and their relationship in the next few years?
Kat and Ed both hope to always be a part of each other's lives. As for the nature of that relationship—well...they both might have slightly different ideas as to what that might be. ;)

  1. Okay, after reading through this I officaly ship Kat and Ed! They both sound like such interesting characters and I love that they're partners and oh my god, that vicious tease about how they see the nature of their relationship differently. I mean, they have to end up together, okay? Because I can already tell I will be very distraught if they don't!

I also love how their connection and comitment to each other is being seen as something bad, it intrigues me.

I too realzied this month the severe lack of couples I have in my novels. I mean, I have "love interests" but most my stuff isn't based around a couple! It was hard to find one that would work, honestly. =)

    1. I'd never really paid much attention to how few couples are in my novels before! I wasn't sure I'd have anyone to interview for this month's BP, so I went with these two because they're my main main characters right now. And I really love their interactions and relationship. :)

  2. oh two Assassins training together! How cool. That's how one of my couples will get together as well :)
I like that Ed doesn't want people to know he is nice. Of course not! He is an Assassin :)
    how interesting!
I'd love to learn more about The Assassin's Daughter, Kat and Ed
